Vegan leather has long since grown beyond being a fallback for animal lovers – it’s now its own material category with genuinely different characteristics. At Nafilia we deliberately work with not just one material, but four: apple leather, cactus leather, pineapple leather and grape leather. Each has its own origin, feel and strengths. Here’s your overview of which material suits which product – and why.
Apple Leather (Appleskin™)
Appleskin™ is made from the peel and core waste of Italian apple juice production – a byproduct that would otherwise be discarded. The result feels like soft full-grain leather, while being largely plant-based. Apple leather is breathable, abrasion-resistant, and cares just like high-quality smooth leather with water and leather balm.
Used at Nafilia in: Riding Boots Kara
Cactus Leather (Desserto)
Cactus leather is made from the leaves of the nopal cactus in Mexico, harvested without destroying the plant. It’s naturally water- and dirt-repellent, UV-resistant and especially durable – ideal for daily use at the stable.
Used at Nafilia in: Halter Nayeli
Pineapple Leather (Piñatex®)
Piñatex® is made from the leaf fibres of the pineapple plant – a byproduct of the pineapple harvest. The material is robust, abrasion-resistant and water-repellent, with a pleasantly textured look.
Used at Nafilia in: Halter Dorea
Grape Leather (VEGEA)
VEGEA leather is made from grape marc – the skins, seeds and stalks left over from winemaking. A byproduct of the wine industry becomes a robust, water-repellent material with a classic leather look.
Used at Nafilia in: Halter Zoi and Halter Alija
